June 11, 2025-NYCFC South outlasted Asphalt Green, 3-2, in overtime in the Girls-Under-18 and 19 final on Sunday, June 1 at the Blue Sky Sports Complex in Middletown to win the Barbara Rodriguez Cup. The cup’s namesake is a Northport resident who volunteered as State Cup Chairperson in the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) for an amazing 23 years from 1992 to 2014.
Evangeline Perdomo scored both NYCFC goals in regulation while Isabella Fiorillo netted the winner in overtime.
NYCFC coach Bill Groel said, “It was a tight game and went into overtime. We had more substitutes on the bench which helped us today.”
Asphalt Green returned to Manhattan with the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award, which was determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a US Soccer Life Member who died nine years ago, started the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) Sportsmanship Program in 1980 and it spread to Eastern New York, nationally and then to China and Ireland, and in the process, made soccer games kinder and gentler.
NYCFC South will represent Eastern New York at the East Regionals from June 28 to July 3 in Loudoun County, Virginia as part of the National Championship Series.

June 10, 2025-Capital Elite Blue Fire shut out NYCFC North, 2-0, in the Girls-Under-17 final on Sunday, June 1 at the Blue Sky Sports Complex in Middletown to win the Richard Christiano Cup.
Bridget Coon scored both goals for Capital Elite while Addie Reinhold and Nadia Aggour shared the shutout in goal.
“We scored two really good goals in the first half and battled the rest of the way in an even game,” explained Capital Elite coach Kevin Smith.
Capital Elite also received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a US Soccer Life Member who died nine years ago, started the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) Sportsmanship Program in 1980 and it spread to Eastern New York, nationally and then to China and Ireland, and in the process, made soccer games kinder and gentler.
Richard Christiano, the cup’s namesake, has brought fiscal responsibility to the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) as President for the past 16 years. He also was a youth coach for the New Hyde Park Wildcats and served on the LIJSL Board of Directors for 14 years, greatly improving the LIJSL Select Program during this time.

June 10, 2025-New York Hota Bavarians won the Jose Vargas Cup as Boys-Under-17 State Open Cup champs on Sunday, June 1 at the Blue Sky Sports Complex in Middletown. New York Hota and Stony Brook LGN Wildlings were tied, 2-2, at the end of regulation and overtime but Hota prevailed in the shootout, 3-1, to take the state title.
“At the end of the day, our determination made the difference,” stated New York Hota coach Danny Diliberti. “We made winning the State Open Cup our goal at the beginning of the season. We’ve had a rivalry with the Wildlings for the past three years and thought that this year was our best opportunity to win.”
Two boys named Will—Will Fogarty and Will Gleason––scored Hota’s goals.
The cup’s namesake, Jose Vargas, was a man of many hats (and many hats that had many feathers) who served as State Referee Administrator, State Youth Referee Administrator and State Director of Assessment as well as President of the Hudson Valley Youth Soccer League (HVYSL) and East Fishkill Soccer Club.

June 9, 2025-Ballston Spa 2009 Girls outlasted South Shore FC Legacy, 2-1, in overtime in the Girls-Under-16 final on Sunday, June 1 at the Blue Sky Sports Complex in Middletown to take the Peter Masotto Cup back to the Saratoga area.
The cup’s namesake, Peter Masotto, was an East Region Hall of Famer and U.S. Soccer Life Member who volunteered as Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) President from 1984 to 2006 and coached the Massapequa Falcons girls team to the 1988 national championship.
“Two consecutive State Open Cup championships is a great accomplishment for our community-based, volunteer organization,” stated Ballston Spa coach Andrew Werner, Eastern New York’s 2020 Girls Competitive Coach of the Year. “Today’s final featured two highly competitive teams and we won simply because we finished just one more time.”
Olivia Wheaton scored both goals for Ballston Spa.

June 9, 2025-Two teams from Long Island produced a very competitive final as Long Island SC topped the Commack Pride, 2-1, in overtime to win the Boys-Under-16 State Open Cup championship on Sunday, June 1 at the Blue Sky Sports Complex in Middletown. Long Island SC has won the State Open Cup two of the past three years.
The cup’s namesake, Livio D’Arpino, was an Eastern New York Hall of Famer who was seemingly involved in every level of local soccer before his untimely passing in 2002. He was the third vice president of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) and the first vice president of the Eastern New York Adult Soccer Association. Livio also was President of the Italian-American Soccer League, of which he was voted a Life Member.
Matteo Campoli scored in regulation and Tommy Shreier hit the gamewinner in overtime for Long Island SC.
“We have good quality that comes off the bench with 18 players which helped make the difference,” explained Long Island SC coach Tom Bowen.

June 8, 2025-Stony Brook LGN United shut out last year’s State Open Cup champs, the Beekman Warriors, 4-0, in the Girls-Under-15 final on Sunday, June 1 at the Blue Sky Sports Complex in Middletown.
The game was played for the Jack Bauman Cup. The cup’s namesake is considered the father of women’s soccer on Long Island as he was devoted to the Massapequa Soccer Club, the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) and making sure that girls had as many opportunities to play soccer as boys did.
“We played Beekman during the season and won, 1-0,” explained Stony Brook LGN coach Tim Graham. “We were on today, we came out of the gate and scored right away. The girls were really focused today.”
Ella Hines scored two goals, Brooke Pfeiffer and Charlotte Furey each scored one while goalkeeper Alyssa Giovingo had the shutout in net.

June 8, 2025-In an incredible final in the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA), the Long Island Slammers topped Just Play Soccer, 3-2, in overtime on Sunday, June 1 at the Blue Sky Sports Complex in Middletown.
“It was an amazing game!” exclaimed Long Island coach Frankie Pampin, the 2022 Regional Coach of the Year. “We were up 2-0, then they scored and then converted a penalty kick in the last minute of regulation. We went down a player in overtime and scored 10 against 11 to win the game.”
With the same coach and many of the same players, Long Island won the State Open Cup as the Gunners Soccer Kids two years ago.
Miguel Varilla and John Pulla scored the Long Island goals in regulation and Isaiah Soriano netted the game winner in overtime.
Long Island also received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. The cup’s honoree, Ray Wolfe, played in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League, coached in the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL) and was State Youth Referee Administrator (SYRA) of Eastern New York for nearly a decade before passing away six years ago.

June 7, 2025-The Force was with the Stony Brook LGN Force as the squad won their second consecutive State Open Cup championship. They defeated NYCFC North, 4-2, in the Girls-Under-14 final on June 1 at the Blue Sky Sports Complex in Middletown.
The cup’s namesake, Barry Salter, volunteered as President of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) from 2006-10 as well as previously serving in the same role with the Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL). He was inducted into the Halls of Fame of both groups.
Nicolette Seuimlioglu scored two goals while Violet Duersliy and Mia Montalto each added one for Stony Brook LGN.
Winning coach Brian Ellsayed stated, “We won because of a little luck plus hard work and a lot of belief!”
