June 10, 2025-New York Hota Bavarians won the Jose Vargas Cup as Boys-Under-17 State Open Cup champs on Sunday, June 1 at the Blue Sky Sports Complex in Middletown. New York Hota and Stony Brook LGN Wildlings were tied, 2-2, at the end of regulation and overtime but Hota prevailed in the shootout, 3-1, to take the state title.
“At the end of the day, our determination made the difference,” stated New York Hota coach Danny Diliberti. “We made winning the State Open Cup our goal at the beginning of the season. We’ve had a rivalry with the Wildlings for the past three years and thought that this year was our best opportunity to win.”
Two boys named Will—Will Fogarty and Will Gleason––scored Hota’s goals.

The cup’s namesake, Jose Vargas, was a man of many hats (and many hats that had many feathers) who served as State Referee Administrator, State Youth Referee Administrator and State Director of Assessment as well as President of the Hudson Valley Youth Soccer League (HVYSL) and East Fishkill Soccer Club.
New York Hota will represent the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) at the East Regionals from June 28 to July 3 in Loudoun County, Virginia as part of the National Championship Series.
With over 100,000 youth soccer players––both boys and girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border.
