SafeSport Training

Eastern NY Youth Soccer upholds the highest standards for participant safety by ensuring all adults engaged in our registered and affiliated programs comply with the most rigorous standards for background checks and abuse training.

We do this not just because it’s the law, but because it’s the right thing to do. Abuse prevention is now an integral part of our roles as youth soccer administrators, coaches, referees, volunteers, and parents. We all need to “go the extra mile” to ensure our kids can enjoy the game in a healthy and non-threatening environment.

Therefore, every adult who may have the opportunity to have direct and unmonitored access to children must complete:

  • SafeSport Training – U.S. Soccer Federation training course and the annual refresher course
  • A comprehensive Background Check; and
  • Heads Up CDC Concussion Awareness Training

To make complying with these new requirements as easy as possible, ENYYSA utilizes the GotSport system that our member organizations will use as a one-stop shop for all the training certifications.

SafeSport Training

SafeSport training must be completed yearly.
Note: It is not from the date you did it but rather the session ENYYSA has set. The ENY expiration date is set at July 1 to ensure all coaches are cleared for the upcoming season. If you completed your SafeSport before June, you would need to do it now for the upcoming fall season as it would be impossible for our leagues to monitor everyone’s risk management eligibility if a coach’s expiration dates expire at various times.

Note, though, that if a coach already has taken training in the past and has an account, they should log in here: https://safesporttrained.org/#/public-dashboard.  This is all broken down in the instructions as current users who use the new user link will run into issues.

  • SafeSport Training Help Guide for Players 18+

Any player who is 18 years old and older, OR who is TURNING 18 years old DURING the CURRENT seasonal year, MUST complete the SafeSport training, which is accessible in the PLAYER’S GotSport account dashboard.

Specific instructions here:

  • SafeSport Training – Players 18yrs +
  • SafeSport Training – Player or Coach under the age of 18
Any player or coach who is currently 17 years old AND will be turning 18 years old during the current seasonal year.

SafeSport must be completed yearly. Here are the courses that will be needed from SafeSport each year.

Year 1: SafeSport Trained – U.S. Soccer Federation
Year 2: Refresher 1 – Recognizing and Reporting Misconduct
Year 3: Refresher 2 – Preventing Misconduct
Year 4: Refresher 3 – Creating a Positive Sports Environment
Year 5: SafeSport Trained – U.S. Soccer Federation (again)

Once coaches/managers are in the GotSport system, they can access their profile, allowing them to complete their risk management requirements.

When they click on the DASHBOARD in their profile, the 3 risk management requirements will be listed:

SafeSport – yearly renewal with a refresher course
Heads Up Concussion Awareness – once every two years
Background Check – once every two years

Over to the right of each, it will say DETAILS and when they click on that, it will take them to that test to be completed.

If you have any questions, please contact Diana at the ENYYSA State office by calling 516-766-0849.
