The Smithtown Arsenal was not the only team from Eastern New York that did well in Nationals as the Boys-Under-15 Dix Hills Elite made it all the way to the final before losing to Southern California’s Santa Barbara White, 2-1, in overtime. Dix Hills’ Christopher McAuliffe jumped on a loose ball in the box following a corner kick and put it into the net to tie the game at 1-1 in the 65th minute. Late in the second overtime, Santa Barbara’s Chairat Puengrod converted a penalty kick, which turned out to be the winner as Santa Barbara secured the 2-1 win and its second consecutive US Youth Soccer National Championship. Dix Hills’ Richard Mastrangelo, Tyler Spellman and Joseph DeStephano were named to the Top 11 team, Spellman won the Golden Glove Award as best goalkeeper and DeStephano won the Golden Boot Award.
