August 9, 2019-The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) is very pleased to announce that our Director of Coaching Instruction, Tim Bradbury, is being honored as our August Personality of the Month.
“We are very happy to honor Tim this month,” said ENYYSA President Richard Christiano. “He is a very well-thought of coach and instructor who has done an excellent job in the very challenging and exhausting role as our Director of Coaching Instruction for the past decade.”
Our honoree grew up playing center midfield in Stoke-on-Trent, England for youth club Trentham Romans and then for the Staffordshire County Team, North of England Under-18, Borough Road and British Colleges plus played semipro soccer with Hounslow FC. Tim left Stoke to pursue a teaching degree in London in 1984 and then left London for New York in 1989 after being offered a full-time coaching role with Long Island Soccer Camps, which became Noga.
Tim also coached the York College men for five years after arriving in the United States, leading the Cardinals to the inaugural City University of New York (CUNY) men’s soccer final, a 2-1 win over John Jay College on October 27, 1990 at Lehman College in the Bronx. Besides being the first-ever CUNY soccer final, that game is notable for having a total of 25 countries represented through the players, coaches and match officials. He also coached York to the CUNY championship in 1994, his last season with the program.
While coaching youth teams, Tim served as Noga Camps Coaching Director from 1989 to 2004, Technical Director of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) Select Program in 1996, head coach of the Eastern New York ODP Girls Program from 2003 to ’05, head coach of the Long Island Rough Riders Super Y-League teams from 2003 to 2006 and was a member of the US Soccer Grass Roots Design Group from 2014 to ‘16.
Currently, the Smithtown resident is staff coach of the LIJSL Coaching Academy, a US Soccer Instructor, a United Soccer Coaches national instructor as well as Eastern New York’s Director of Coaching Instruction for the past decade. Tim has given clinics at the United Soccer Coaches national conventions in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2011 and 2018.
He coached Women’s World Cup champion Crystal Dunn for six years as a kid as well as other star players such as Rachel Nuzzolese and Patrice Casjmir.
“The players I have coached have all been noteworthy for many different reasons,” Tim stated.
Tim writes a coaching article for Eastern New York which is always one of our most read articles every month. He advocates that youth soccer should always be fun, parents always should be positive and kids need an opportunity to rest their bodies too.
