Hauppauge Strikers Win the Boys-Under-12 Challenge Cup

By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association

June 16, 2026-The Hauppauge Strikers persevered in coming from behind in both regulation and the shootout on May 30 in the Boys-Under-12 Challenge Cup final at the Blue Sky Sports Complex in Middletown.

Hauppauge tied Elites United Pythons, 3-3, in regulation and won the shootout, 4-3, to bring the Challenge Cup home to Long Island.

“We could not contain them at the start, but we played with a lot of heart, got some confidence and came from behind after being down, 2-0, in the first five minutes,” Hauppauge coach Gennaro Iamunno explained.

Ethan Augustin, Dean Georgalas and Parker Mannino scored Hauppauge’s goals in regulation.

Elites United received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a US Soccer Life Member who died a decade ago, started the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) Sportsmanship Program in 1980 and it spread to the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA), nationally and then to China and Ireland, making soccer games kinder and gentler.

With over 100,000 youth soccer players––both boys and girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border, east of Route 81. ENYYSA encourages the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered––from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Children With Special Needs. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. “It was hard to break down Hauppauge in the first half but we eventually did,” Atlantic United coach Matt Mannino explained. “We got more confidence, played some nice combinations and played really nice soccer.”

Hauppauge did not go home empty-handed as they received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Patchogue-Medford United Wins the Boys-Under-10 Platinum Challenge Cup

By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association

June 13, 2026-For Patchogue/Medford United coach James Bentley, it was deja vu all over again.

As a youth soccer player, his team won the state championship by defeating a Clarkstown team in a penalty kick shootout. Decades later as a youth soccer coach, he led his Patchogue-Medford United to the state title over Clarkstown with the only goal of the game scored on a penalty kick.

On May 30, 2026, Patchogue-Medford topped Clarkstown White EDP Furlong, 1-0, in the Boys-Under-10 Platinum Challenge Cup final at the Blue Sky Sports Complex in Middletown for supremacy in the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA).

Fabian Bedoya scored on a penalty kick and keeper Andrew Przedwiecki had the shutout in goal.

“We wanted to move the ball better than we were able to do so against a strong Clarkstown team,” Coach Bentley explained.

Clarkstown received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a US Soccer Life Member who died a decade ago, started the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) Sportsmanship Program in 1980 and it spread to Eastern New York, nationally and then to China and Ireland, and in the process, made soccer games kinder and gentler.

The State Cup Marches Into Spring

By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association

March 20, 2026-This first day of spring is most welcome after a very snowy winter where much of New York State received three times more snow than average. Our soccer fields are drying out and the State Cup in the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) is being played.

The first two rounds are in March. Round 3 is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, the quarterfinals are on Saturday, May 2 with the semifinals on Saturday, May 16. All those rounds are played at the home teams’ field.

The finals are at a neutral site, the Blue Sky Sports Complex in Middletown, which is centrally-located in Eastern New York. Championship Day is Saturday, May 30 and 22 state champion teams will be crowned that day.

There are two different cup competitions in Eastern New York. The US Youth Soccer ENYYSA State Cup Championship (formerly the State Open Cup) is for the top teams and it’s the pathway to Nationals. There are no Regionals anymore and State Cup Championship teams go directly to Nationals.

The Challenge Cup is for all teams at Under-10 and Under-11 as there is not a State Cup Championship in those age groups. For Under-12 and Under-13, it’s for mid- to lower-tier squads.

For more info about the State Cup, please phone the ENYYSA office at 516-766-0849.
