By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association

October 20, 2026-Any family that pronounces their surname “megs,” which is dribbling the ball between an opponent’s legs, has to be a soccer family.

And the Meigs family, living in Oakwood Heights, certainly are into the world’s most popular sport. Kyleigh Meigs started playing soccer as a young girl and her mother, Melanie Loock, was her head coach and her dad Scott Meigs was her assistant for the Girls-Under-7 Richmondtown Diamonds playing in the Staten Island Youth Soccer League (SIYSL).

Kyleigh played for both Richmondtown and the Silver Lake Soccer Academy from ages 9 through 13 and has been playing club soccer for Silver Lake exclusively after she aged of Richmondtown, while Scott joined the SIYSL Board of Directors in 2019 as the 4th Vice President.

Kyleigh’s play at Moore Catholic High School has been very impressive as the 16-year-old senior has scored an amazing 105 goals so far during her four years on the varsity soccer team. She tallied four goals in the 2024 New York City Catholic Tier 3 final, a 7-0 win over Christ the King, and after the Mavericks were promoted to Tier 2, she helped lead them to the 2025 championship game, a 3-1 loss to Kennedy Catholic.

Kyleigh, an only child, would like to major in business finance in college but she remains uncommitted to a university at this point. The future looks very bright as she has a 97.8 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society, volunteers as a coach in the Richmondtown Soccer Club and is a Grassroots Referee in the Staten Island Soccer Referees Association (SISRA).

Meanwhile, Scott moved up the SIYSL Executive Board ladder during the past seven years and he was elected President this past June. He has goals too and wants the SIYSL “to create a safer, stronger, and more inclusive soccer community for every player, coach, referee and family involved in our league. An important long-term goal is to expand SIYSL’s access to dedicated fields that our league can rely on, allowing us to better accommodate our growing number of players and provide more consistent scheduling opportunities.”

With over 100,000 youth soccer players––both boys and girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border, east of Route 81. ENYYSA encourages the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered––from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Children With Special Needs. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. ENYYSA is a proud member of US Soccer and US Youth Soccer. For more information, please log on to http://www.enysoccer.com/
