June 5, 2026-In a match-up between two teams that are five miles apart, Dix Hills Angel City won their second consecutive state championship by defeating the Commack Crossfire, 3-0. This final for the Barry Salter Cup, emblematic of the Girls-Under-14 State Cup Championship, was played on Saturday, May 30 at the Blue Sky Sports Complex in Middletown.

Macie Mazzella, Kailey Pierce and Lucia Bucobo scored Dix Hills’ goals while keeper Paige Bauz had the shutout in net.
Dix Hills coach Thriston Briscoe stated, “Our girls wanted it more as we had lost to Commack the last time we played. They have bought into what we are teaching.”
Commack received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a US Soccer Life Member who died a decade ago, started the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) Sportsmanship Program in 1980 and it spread to Eastern New York, nationally and then to China and Ireland, and in the process, made soccer games kinder and gentler.
Dix Hills will represent the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) as they play for the national championship on July 16 to 23 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
The cup’s namesake, Barry Salter, volunteered as President of ENYYSA from 2006-10 as well as previously serving in the same role with the Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL). He was inducted into the Halls of Fame of both groups.
With over 100,000 youth soccer players––both boys and girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border, east of Route 81. ENYYSA encourages the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered––from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Children With Special Needs. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. ENYYSA is a proud member of US Soccer and US Youth Soccer. For more information, please log on to http://www.enysoccer.com/
