July 17, 2023-Gunners Soccer Kids won all six games at Regionals in late June in Loudoun County, Virginia, outscoring their opponents by an amazing 25 to 3 to win the Boys-Under-13 Regional championship. They won the final, 4-1, over the Virginia Rush on June 29.
Frank Pampin, the 2022 Eastern New York and Regional Boys Competitive Coach of the Year, talked about his Gunners, “We play a possession-based style. Our boys do a very good job in passing at short distances while stretching the field horizontally and vertically. They are always looking to pass the ball through the thirds of the field without letting opponents attack us.”
The Gunners’ players live in Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Westchester and Long Island. They are representing the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) at the Nationals from July 17 to 23 in Orlando as part of the National Championship Series.
Coach Pampin stated, “To prepare for Nationals, we worked on pre-planned movements that will be utilized during our games while trying to correct the errors we made at Regionals.”
With approximately 100,000 youth soccer players––both boys and girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border.
