August 19, 2015-The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) is very pleased to announce that Hope Quinonez is receiving the Patricia Louise Masotto and Brenda Driscoll Scholarship. The scholarship’s namesakes were best friends and top women’s soccer players from Massapequa, Long Island. Eastern New York set up a scholarship in their name after they were killed by a drunk driver in 1985.
Hope helped lead Farmingdale United to seven State Open Cup titles as they became one of the best teams ever to play in the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL).
She wrote in her essay, “I’ve had a ball glued to my feet ever since I was four years old and I still continue to travel everywhere with a ball even at the age of 18. I would drop everything just to be able to play, whether it is a pick-up game or just a practice. Ever since I started playing, I have made so many sacrifices and I do not regret missing an event or even having a fitness practice on my birthday.”
The Westbury resident played in Eastern New York’s Olympic Development Program (ODP) for three years, winning Regionals.
At W. Tresper Clarke High School, she was All-County for three years and All-State her senior year plus played basketball as well. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the National English Honor Society and the LOTE Honor Society. Additionally, her artwork was presented at the District Art Show for the past six years.
“Soccer means so much to me and to be acknowledged by the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association is so special,” Hope said.
We wish Hope the best as she attends Marist College.
With over 100,000 youth soccer players––both boys and girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 11 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81.
