June 26, 2015-Start spreading the news that boys soccer teams from New York City swept all five age groups of the ENY Champions Cup, played on Sunday, June 21 at Owl Hollow Fields on Staten Island. This big event, for the top Division 1 teams from each of the 11 member leagues of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA), was organized by the volunteers from Eastern New York as well as the Staten Island Youth Soccer League (SIYSL). There was a Final Four format with both the semifinals and finals played on the same day and when the 21 games were completed, these teams were top of the list:
Boys-Under-11: New York Kids (Big Apple Youth Soccer League) defeated B/W Gottschee ‘01 Blue (Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League), 5-4
Boys-Under-12: AC Breukelen (Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League) defeated the Beacon Burn (East Hudson Youth Soccer League), 4-2
Boys-Under-13: Latin Star SA Scorpions (Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League) defeated B/W Gottschee ‘03 Royal (Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League), 2-1
Boys-Under-14: B/W Gottschee (Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League) defeated SC Gjoa Fire (Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League), 2-1
Boys-Under-15: Staten Island United Gunners (Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League) shut out JPS Blue Devils (Westchester Youth Soccer District), 4-0
The festivities were part of Championship Weekend on Staten Island as the ENY Premier League finals were played the day before, also at Owl Hollow Fields. The Staten Island United Gunners took the Championship Weekend moniker literally as they won the ENY Premier League title on Saturday and the ENY Champions Cup on Sunday to complete a rare double of two championships in one weekend in their home borough.
“Thank you, Eastern New York, for organizing the ENY Champions Cup. It was a great day on good fields and our team was able to play against teams that we have not met before,” commented Rheyan Cader, coach of Boys-Under-12 finalist Beacon Burn.
