October 24, 2023-The Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL) started a movement in 1933 as the first youth soccer league in the USA. Originally known as the German-American Junior Soccer League, the name was changed four decades later to reflect changing immigration patterns. As its Cosmopolitan name implies, the CJSL is one of the most diverse soccer leagues in the world with dozens of languages spoken on CJSL fields every weekend. The league is made up of 25,000 players today. CJSL alumni have used their soccer ability to gain scholarship and entry to the college of their choice throughout the league’s rich 90-year history.

The CJSL is excited to celebrate its 90th anniversary with a grand Dinner Dance on Friday night, November 17, 2023 at Terrace on the Park in Queens. The CJSL will induct the following soccer lifers into the CJSL Hall of Fame:

Paul Gardner: A nationally-renowned soccer journalist, Paul's contributions to soccer journalism have been invaluable, enlightening and inspiring for countless fans and enthusiasts

George Gjokaj: As the Head Coach at SUNY Purchase College, George has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of soccer by mentoring and coaching aspiring players

Dusanka Marusic: A significant figure with New York Croatia, Dusanka has made enduring contributions to the world of soccer, inspiring and guiding countless players.

Frank McCarthy: With a history that includes SC Gjoa, BW Gottschee and the CJSL, Frank's dedication to soccer has been unwavering and praiseworthy.

Ivo Mohorovic: A respected name within Istria SC and Metropolitan Oval, Ivo's impact on soccer has been enduring and instrumental.

Sig Samuelsen: A renowned figure at SC Gjoa, Sig's involvement in soccer has been marked by leadership and excellence.

“These distinguished individuals have not only left an indelible mark on the CJSL but have also significantly contributed to the soccer community as a whole,” said Paul Kontonis, First Vice President of the CJSL. “As we celebrate our 90th anniversary, we are honored to welcome these outstanding inductees into the CJSL Hall of Fame, where they rightfully take their place among the soccer legends who have made a lasting impact on the sport.”

Let's all come together to celebrate nine decades of soccer excellence in New York City.

With over 100,000 youth soccer players––both boys and girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 10 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old, and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered––from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Children With Special Needs. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. ENYYSA is a proud member of the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer Association. For more information, please log on to http://www.enysoccer.com/
