Bill Peet with his grandchildren
By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association
August 6, 2015-The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) salutes Bill Peet as he winds down his four decades of volunteering with the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL).
“Bill Peet has established an amazing legacy of volunteering with the LIJSL,” commented Eastern New York President Richard Christiano. “From the days of the LIJSL office in Hicksville, then Plainview and now the office in Ronkonkoma today, Bill would spend many nights there volunteering so that the league could continue to provide a top soccer program for all its players.”
Bill became involved with the sport just after the start of the youth soccer boom in the mid-1970s when he registered his twin sons, Billy and Mike, in the Brentwood Soccer Club. He would eventually become their coach with the Brentwood Jets and the travel team played in the LIJSL. Bill went on to coach numerous Brentwood teams, both boys and girls, as well as the LIJSL Select Program. He also received the National “C” Coaching License.
Bill volunteered on the LIJSL Board of Directors for 30 years including a quarter-century as Treasurer. The Brentwood resident also volunteered as LIJSL Registrar and still serves on the Appeals Committee and the Rules Committee today. He was inducted into the LIJSL Hall of Fame in 1999.
This is in addition to his “real job” owning Lundgren & Mause, a Property and Casualty Insurance Agency in Jericho.
“I met a lot of wonderful people who helped me as Treasurer,” Bill stated. “And I loved to watch the kids play.”
With over 100,000 youth soccer players––both boys and girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 11 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old, and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered––from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Special Children. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. ENYYSA is a proud member of the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer Association.
