Olympic Development Program Tryout Process Details
Posted August 20, 2008

The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association’s Executive Board has announced the tryout process for this coming season’s Olympic Development Program.

Please read the following carefully:

FOR BOYS AND GIRLS BORN IN 1995, 1994, 1993 AND 1992:

o  Boys and Girls born in 1995, 1994, 1993 and 1992 will be trying out via state association-run tryouts that start in September.  Tryout dates and times are posted at www.enysoccer.com at the ODP link and are coming up pretty quickly.

--If you live in the five boroughs of New York City or live in Long Island, you tryout for ODP South; if you live in Westchester Country northward, a player would tryout for ODP North.  Doesn’t matter which league you play in...you tryout in the area in which you live.

FOR BOYS AND GIRLS BORN IN 1997 AND 1996

o  For boys and girls born in 1997 and 1996 tryouts will run as follows, as detailed also on the ODP link on the ENYYSA website:

--All 1997 and 1996s (boys and girls north and boys and girls south) statewide will be encouraged to tryout and play with their league select program.  So, for example, if you play for a club in the Long Island Junior Soccer League, you are encouraged to tryout for that league’s select program; if you play for the Westchester Youth Soccer League, you would tryout for the WYSL Select Team...and so on.

--In early May, in both the ODP south and ODP north areas, there will be "State ID Tournaments" at which the Select Teams from the various leagues in the state will compete against one another and at which state ODP program coaching staff members will evaluate all the players in the tournament.  (Those coaches will also work during the year with each Select Program to evaluate and identify players for the State ODP program).

-- After the state ID tournament is held, a group of 25 or so players each (boys and girls north/boys and girls south) will be identified.

In the 1997 age group, the pool of players will be selected to be invited to the July Region 1 "Developmental" camp (boys only, there is no Developmental camp for1997 girls).  There will NOT BE 1997 State Teams per se, as those selected to go to the Region 1 activity WILL NOT form a team to go to tournaments.

In the 1996 age group, the pool of players selected after the ID tournament will be brought together in May for a few Monday practices.  The entire pool of players selected will be invited to go to the Region 1 ID camp; 18 players per ODP Boys North, ODP Girls North; ODP Boys South and ODP Girls South will be selected based on the practices to also take part in the Region 1 ID tournament in June.

FOR THOSE 1997s and 1996s WHO CHOSE NOT TO PARTICIPATE IN THEIR LEAGUE SELECT PROGRAM

--Anyone not wanting to play for their league select team can still tryout for the 1997 and 1996 state program.  They will do this by attending an open 1.5 hour or so tryout to be held sometime in early May. (Tryouts held north and south).  Anyone deemed by the coaches at that open tryout to be of "state" quality will be invited to participate on the state pool/team.

Any questions on this should be addressed to Cathy O’Brien, the ENYYSA State Administrator, at cobrien@enysoccer.com or 516/766-0849.
