June 15, 2016-Down 3-1 with six minutes left to play, Michael Spence from the West Islip Lightning of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) hustled in scoring his team’s second goal against the Washingtonville Golden Lions of the East Hudson Youth Soccer League (EHYSL).

“Momentum swung on Michael’s goal and we were off to the races,” commented West Islip coach Craig Miller.

West Islip’s Ryan Getfield scored the game winner in overtime to complete the 4-3 score in this Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) Boys-Under-10 Arch Capital Group Cup final played at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview on June 11. Jack Greene and Michael Krupski scored West Islip’s other goals.

Washingtonville received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Now living in Kentucky, Mr. Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the LIJSL.
