June 28, 2017-In a final between two Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) teams, Rockville Centre Extreme defeated Stony Brook Spartak, 3-1, for Boys-Under-12 Arch Cup Gold. This Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) championship game was played on Saturday, June 3 at Stringham Park in LaGrange.
Gavin Goodlad, Brian Hendry and Cyprian Motyl scored the Rockville Centre goals.
Tom O’Keeffe assists Garen Tchopourian in coaching the team. Coach Tchopourian stated, “I thought that our passing and possession won the game for us.”
Stony Brook did not leave the Hudson Valley empty-handed as they received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a US Soccer Life Member who died last year, started the Sportsmanship Program of the LIJSL in 1980 and it spread to Eastern New York, nationally and then to China and Ireland, and in the process, made soccer games kinder and gentler.
