November 22, 2022-Much of the growth in youth soccer during the past decade has come through the game of futsal as it greatly contributes to players’ ball control as they are constantly put in situations where they must pass, receive, dribble and move while in a confined space. Plus the goalkeepers are a big part of the action as well as it is played 5 vs. 5. Futsal develops skills required for soccer: balance, motor ability, agility, coordination, ball mastery, accurate passing and receiving, perception and awareness. Players use the skills that they acquired in futsal when they return to playing outdoor soccer in March.

New York Futsal and the Long Island Futsal League, both sanctioned by the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA), are currently seeking teams to play in their 2023 winter season.

New York Futsal plays in Manhattan gymnasiums while the Long Island Futsal League utilizes the Massapequa Field House in Nassau County on Saturdays and gyms in central Suffolk County on Sundays while make-up games could be played on Saturday nights in Suffolk. Registration is for both boys and girls.

Register your team for New York Futsal’s 10-week season starting in December for $1,650 plus playoffs and a training session. There are also opportunities for players to be placed on a team so they can enjoy futsal if their outdoor team has not registered. Futsal juniors for pee wees 2-5 years old is $450 for 11 weeks of training and fun games. Scholarships are available and New York Futsal gives discounts for high school seniors who intern. Additionally, New York Futsal has partnered with a Portugese academy that will hold a camp playing against world-renowned clubs Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
