May 17, 2018-Congratulations to the Istria Blue Angels of the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL), who have won the Boys-Under-13 Eastern New York Premier League (ENYPL) title this spring. They accomplished this feat by scoring 14 goals and giving up only 4 en route to a 4-1-1 record.
The ENYPL is the oldest continuous Premier League in the United States and is playing in its 18th year in 2018. Under the direction of ENYPL Chairperson Andreas Touros, teams from eight member leagues from all over the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) formed the ENYPL for the 2018 Spring Season.
Istria, from New York City’s Borough of Queens, also were champions last fall, in the CJSL Boys-Under-13 A Division.
“As a club, we were much more interested in player development than results as the kids were growing up. Now that they are a little older, they have really bought into the team concept,” commented Istria coach Ivo Mohorovic. “They are extremely dedicated and over the last few years have really developed both as individual players and as a team. We were able to possess the ball and play out of the back during all of our games, which led to several scoring chances and ultimately to the results we wanted.”
With over 100,000 youth soccer players––both boys and girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 11 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old, and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered––from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Children With Special Needs. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. ENYYSA is a proud member of the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer Association.
