July 1, 2017-The Boys-Under-14 Arch Cup Platinum final between the Great Neck Falcons of the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) and Cedar Stars Staten Island of the Eastern New York Premier League (ENYPL) was scoreless through regulation and overtime so it went to a shootout to decide the champion. Great Neck won the shootout, 4-2, on June 10 at Stringham Park in LaGrange.

Luke Levinson, Issac Badilla, Logan Golia and Ethan Ran scored on their penalty kicks for the new champs. Great Neck keeper Matthew Heimowitz was a star of the game in saving a second half penalty kick.

“It was a long game and we kept telling our players, ‘Keep your head in the game,’“ stated Great Neck assistant coach Ernesto Paiz.

Cedar Stars received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Amoroso started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980, it has since been copied around the world and he spoke about the benefits of Fair Play across the United States.
