June 20, 2016-In the Boys-Under-14 Arch Capital Group Cup final played between two Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) teams, the Franklin Square Earthquakes defeated the Deer Park Predators, 3-1.
Jonathan Costello, Tim Curtain and Nicholas Resogno scored Franklin Square’s goals in the first half.
“We got an early lead, it was 3-0 at halftime so we were able to sit on the lead in the second half,” explained Franklin Square coach Max Kimbarow.
Deer Park received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Now living in Kentucky, Mr. Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the LIJSL.
The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) championship game was played at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview on June 11.
