June 18, 2014-The west side was the best side in the Girls-Under-13 Arch Capital Group Cup. In the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) final between two Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) teams from neighboring towns, the West Islip Fusion shut out East Islip Intensity, 1-0, on June 7 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview.

West Islip’s Adrienne Casey, who could not play as the goalkeeper as she had broken her finger in goal during LIJSL play, was in the field and scored the only goal of the game. Her teammate, Heather Dreyer, had the shutout in goal instead.

“The difference today was our very strong bench,” said West Islip coach Joe Kennedy.

East Islip received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as selected by game officials. Now retired and living in Ohio, the remarkable namesake of this award was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the LIJSL.

Eastern New York would like to thank our sponsor, Arch Capital Group, which writes insurance and reinsurance on a worldwide basis through operations in the United States, Bermuda, Canada and Europe, with a focus on specialty lines.

“This cup competition is a great event in that it gives young people an opportunity to experience high levels of competition. And you don’t have to be the best team in the state to win a championship with the Arch Capital Group Cup,” said Brian Hughes, Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary of Arch Capital.

With 123,843 youth soccer players––68,587 boys and 55,256 girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 12 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. Eastern New York exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old, and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered––from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Special Children. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. Eastern New York is a proud member of the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer Association.
