The Next Three Weekends Will Determine the Champions in Eastern New York Youth Soccer

By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association
May 20, 2013-Now comes crunch time in the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) as teams throughout the eastern and more populated half of the Empire State plus the top teams in Region 1, going from Maine to Virginia and West Virginia, prepare for some elite competitions during the next three weekends.
The Presidents Cup, featuring many of the top teams in Region 1, will be played on Memorial Day weekend from Saturday, May 25 to Monday, May 27 in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Six Eastern New York teams have been selected to compete: Black Watch Celtics (Girls-Under-12), Capital United Blue Streaks (Girls-Under-13), Highland Red (Girls-Under-14) and Capital United Blue Fusion (Girls-Under-17) from the Capital District Youth Soccer League along with the Coliseum Generals (Boys-Under-12) of the Central New York State Soccer League and the Auburndale/Bayside Tigers (Girls-Under-16) from the Long Island Junior Soccer League.
There are three competitions in the State Cup and the finals will be played in early June. As the name implies, the State Open Cup (US Youth Soccer / ENY State Championship) is open to all teams but is primarily aimed at Premier, Division 1 and Division 2 teams. 283 squads entered this year. Only State Open Cup champs go on to play in the Regionals with those winners going to the Nationals in the National Championship Series.
The ENY Upper 90 Cup is a new competition this spring. 167 excellent teams in each league who are not Premier League teams are playing in this competition. The finals of both the State Open Cup and ENY Upper 90 Cup will be played on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2 at Stringham Park in LaGrange, the home of the LaGrange Soccer Club of the East Hudson Youth Soccer League.
The third competition is the Arch Capital Group Cup with 261 teams competing. For Under-12 and above, it is for travel teams who are still working to rise to the level of the best teams in each league and is open to all Under-10 and Under-11 teams regardless of skill level. Our sponsor, Arch Capital Group, writes insurance and reinsurance on a worldwide basis through operations in the United States, Bermuda, Canada and Europe, with a focus on specialty lines. The cup finals will be played on Saturday, June 8 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview.
"This cup competition is a great event in that it gives young people an opportunity to experience high levels of competition. And you don’t have to be the best team in the state to win a championship with the Arch Capital Group Cup," commented Brian Hughes, Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary of Arch Capital.
With 123,843 youth soccer players––68,587 boys and 55,256 girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border.
