By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association

July 1, 2014-The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) recently hosted two new competitions––the Eastern New York Premier League (ENYPL) Finals and Eastern New York Champions Cup––to close out the Spring Season. Teams from six leagues were crowned as champions, demonstrating the great amount of talent found throughout the state.

“Although starting and hosting the Eastern New York Premier League Finals and Eastern New York Champions Cup was a great deal of work for our volunteers, we were happy to do it in response to our members looking for a higher level of competition,” commented Eastern New York President Richard Christiano. “Many thanks to both the Staten Island Youth Soccer League and East Hudson Youth Soccer League for having their fields available and being wonderful hosts.”

The ENYPL Finals were played on Flag Day, June 14 at the brand-new Owl Hollow Fields on Staten Island and it wound up being a banner day for these teams crowned as champions:

Brian Gordon, who was recently appointed the women’s soccer head coach at Hartwick College and also coaches the FC Dutchmen Roughnecks, who lost in a shootout in the Boys-Under-15 finals, sent this note to ENYPL Director Steve Padaetz, “I just wanted to touch base with you after this weekend's games and chatting with you. I thought the whole process, group games, quality of teams, quality of finals, etc., were excellent. I thought it was a really positive experience for all the boys and I know that my kids had a good time, despite the result. Thanks again and I am sure our paths will cross again soon.”

June 21 saw the semifinals and finals of the Eastern New York Champions Cup, the new competition for the Division 1 champions of Eastern New York’s leagues.
