Stony Brook Hawks Shut Out Coliseum Arsenal, 1-0, to Capture Boys-Under-11 Arch Cup Gold

By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association
June 14, 2019-The Boys-Under-11 Arch Cup Gold final on June 1 at Stringham Park in LaGrange was an intriguing match-up between two teams hundreds of miles apart. Stony Brook Hawks from the Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) topped Utica’s Coliseum Arsenal of the Central New York Youth Soccer League, 1-0, in this Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) championship game.

Myles Weber scored the game's only goal while Stony Brook goalkeeper Ryan Anderson recorded the shutout.

“We used the width of the field very well and that led to our goal,” stated Stony Brook coach Dan Balzan.

Stony Brook also received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. The namesake of the award, who died in 2016, was inducted into the Halls of Fame of the LIJSL and Eastern New York plus was honored as a Life Member by U.S. Soccer. Amoroso started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980, it has since been copied around the world and he spoke about the benefits of Fair Play across the United States.
