Roosevelt Castilla Outlast the Commack Fire to Win Boys-Under-15 Arch Cup Gold

By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association

July 4, 2017-In a lengthy title game between two Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) teams, Roosevelt Castilla defeated the Commack Fire, 2-1, in overtime to win Boys-Under-15 Arch Cup Gold. The final was played on Saturday, June 10 at Stringham Park in LaGrange.

Jordan Maldonado and Willy Perez scored Roosevelt’s goals.

“The game was too even,” said Roosevelt coach Philip Rigaud. “Upfront, we were not passing the ball well but then we put some passes together and fed our goal scorers.”

Roosevelt also added the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award, as determined by the game officials. The namesake of the award, who died last year, was inducted into the Halls of Fame of the LIJSL and Eastern New York plus was honored as a Life Member by U.S. Soccer. Amoroso started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980, it has since been copied around the world and he spoke about the benefits of Fair Play across the United States.

The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) would like to thank our title sponsor, Arch Capital Group, which writes insurance and reinsurance on a worldwide basis through operations in the United States, Bermuda, Canada and Europe, with a focus on specialty lines.

“This cup competition is a great event in that it gives young people an opportunity to experience high levels of competition. And you don’t have to be the best team in the state to win a championship with the Arch Cup,” said Brian Hughes, Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary of Arch Capital.
