June 17, 2014-Congratulations to the Plainedge Red Phoenix, 3-1 winners over the Smithtown Cosmos in the Arch Capital Group Cup final on June 7 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview. The game between two Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) teams for Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) supremacy in the Girls-Under-10 division was played 8 vs. 8. The cup’s sponsor, Arch Capital Group, writes insurance and reinsurance on a worldwide basis through operations in the United States, Bermuda, Canada and Europe, with a focus on specialty lines.

Reilley Turowski, Emily Tierney and Christie Monteleone scored Plainedge’s goals.

“We knew from the start that Smithtown are a very good team with a terrific defense and that we had to come out fast and strong,” commented Plainedge coach Andrew Ford. “We scored some great early goals and managed to sustain some second half pressure. I've very proud of the girls on this terrific achievement!”

Smithtown received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as selected by game officials. Now retired, Mr. Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the LIJSL.

With 123,843 youth soccer players––68,587 boys and 55,256 girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border.
