Plainedge Pumas Top the Sound Beach Spirit, 4-2, to Take the Girls-Under-14 ENY Upper 90 Cup

By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association
June 11, 2013-The Plainedge Pumas won the Arch Capital Group Cup in 2012 and added to their trophy case by winning the ENY Upper 90 Cup this year, defeating the Sound Beach Spirit, 4-2, for the Girls-Under-14 title. The game between two Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) teams was played on June 1 at Stringham Park in LaGrange.
"It was an exciting, competitive game. We had the better of play in the second half and that made the difference" said Plainedge coach Jean Matthews.
Jessica Bernstein scored two goals plus Alexis Aschettino and Franceca Picicci each added one to give Plainedge the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) championship.
Sound Beach received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as selected by the game referees. Now living in Ohio, the remarkable namesake of this award was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the Long Island Junior Soccer League.
