New York Hota Strikers Shut Out Valley Stream GM Academy, 1-0, in OT to Capture the Boys-Under-13 Arch Capital Group Cup

By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association

June 19, 2014-The Boys-Under-13 Arch Capital Group Cup championship game on June 7 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview featured a defensive match-up between neighboring Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) teams. Jason Delgado scored at the end of the second overtime to give New York Hota Strikers a 1-0 win over Valley Stream GM Academy in this Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) championship game.

“It was a very tight game but we were able to win at the end,” explained New York Hota coach Joe Neubauer.

Colin Lawless and Justin Mechetti are the Hota keepers who kept Valley Stream off the score sheet for 90 minutes through the 70 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime.

Valley Stream received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as selected by game officials. Now retired, Mr. Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the LIJSL.

Eastern New York would like to thank our sponsor, Arch Capital Group, which writes insurance and reinsurance on a worldwide basis through operations in the United States, Bermuda, Canada and Europe, with a focus on specialty lines.
