June 20, 2014-Goals by Ryann Augstell, Kelly Dufort, Casey Oliver and Gabrielle Pouchak gave Latham Circle Intensity of the Capital District Youth Soccer League (CDYSL) the win over Kosmos Athena of the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League (CJSL). The game for the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association’s (ENYYSA) Girls-Under-16 Arch Capital Group Cup championship was played on June 7 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview, Long Island.

“Our girls were very focused and pressured the ball for all 80 minutes of the game to give us the championship,” commented Latham Circle coach Cesar Markovic.

Latham Circle also received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as selected by game officials. Now retired and living in Ohio, the remarkable namesake of this award was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the Long Island Junior Soccer League.

Eastern New York would like to thank our sponsor, Arch Capital Group, which writes insurance and reinsurance on a worldwide basis through operations in the United States, Bermuda, Canada and Europe, with a focus on specialty lines.

“This cup competition is a great event in that it gives young people an opportunity to experience high levels of competition. And you don’t have to be the best team in the state to win a championship with the Arch Capital Group Cup,” said Brian Hughes, Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary of Arch Capital.

With 123,843 youth soccer players––68,587 boys and 55,256 girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 12 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. Eastern New York exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old, and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered––from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Special Children. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. Eastern New York is a proud member of the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer Association.
