John Kilby Inducted Into the Eastern New York Soccer Hall of Fame

John Kilby

By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association

December 5, 2012-The Eastern New York State Senior Association and Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association congratulate John Kilby, who was inducted into the Eastern New York Soccer Hall of Fame at the 2012 Holiday Party on December 1 at Lido Restaurant on City Island.
John came to the United States 40 years ago as a treasurer for the English International Gas Company. He began playing for the Kearney Scots and the team eventually became the Union County Soccer Club. He joined Union County’s Executive Board and rose through the ranks to become club President in 1979 and again in 1982-83. At this time, one of the Union County youth teams was coached by Miguel Reyna whose son Claudio went from playing for Union County as a kid to becoming captain of the U.S. Men’s National Team as an adult.
In the 1980’s, John became a member of the Board of Directors of the Cosmopolitan Soccer League (CSL). Just as with Union County, he had two stints as CSL President––1985 to 1989 and 1993 to 1999. His 10 years as CSL President makes him the league’s longest-serving President. John is now a CSL Life Member, still a member of the CSL’s Board of Directors and a member of the Appeal Committee plus the league’s liaison to the New Jersey State Association.
John served as President of the New Jersey Eagles of the American Soccer League. With all these accomplishments, John has entered a brave new world by recently becoming a referee.
He has been inducted into the New Jersey State Soccer Association Hall of Fame and now follows that with Eastern New York induction.
Congratulations to John Kilby!
