November 17, 2011-Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) President Richard Christiano has appointed Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL) President Julian DiDonato to become a trustee of ENYYSA. He was unanimously approved by the Board of Directors at the ENYYSA General Meeting on November 14.
Julian became involved in soccer as many adults do, through their children. In 1990, his twin son and daughter started playing intramural soccer and he became “enamored with seeing all these kids running around playing a healthy activity at such an early age.” The Eastchester resident’s outgoing personality and positive views soon helped him climb the youth soccer ladder, from assistant coach in the Eastchester Youth Soccer Club to Vice President and Director of WYSL’s League Select Program to currently WYSL President. Julian’s initiatives, organizational and management skills have helped develop the WYSL into one of the largest leagues in ENYYSA with 17,000 players. As WYSL President, Julian is experimenting with a gender-specific soccer ball for teenage girls’ play among other innovative concepts for his league.
“I am very pleased to become a trustee of ENYYSA as this is a very important organization and there is an important need in a positive direction for youth soccer,” Julian commented.
With 120,000 youth soccer players and more than 25,000 volunteers, the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 12 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81. ENYYSA exists to promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old, and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered––from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as Special Children. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away. ENYYSA is a proud member of the United States Soccer Federation and United States Youth Soccer Association.
