Eastern New York’s Revised “D” Coaching Course is Dynamic and Demanding

By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association

September 9, 2013-With the addition of our National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Level 1-5 courses, the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) offers a full menu of courses designed to meet the needs of all levels of coaches.

"From the new parent/coach who just wants to run a developmentally-sound practice to the dedicated coach who may want to become a professional one day, Eastern New York has a course to suit your needs," commented our Director of Coaching Instruction, Tim Bradbury.

One of our most effective courses is the new US Soccer "D" Course. The "D" takes more of a long-term learning approach than any other youth soccer course and is now spread over five to six months, involving the following key steps/events:

1. Course orientation: This mandatory 2-hour lecture provides the candidates with the information they will need to successfully complete the "D."

2. Five initial practices which the candidates must plan, teach, evaluate and video before the first teaching weekend. Each session is planned and reviewed through communication with one of two course instructors.

3. Attendance at teaching weekend 1. This two-day event takes place approximately six to seven weeks after the initial orientation lecture and primarily involves classroom sessions and practical demonstrations led by the course instructors.

4. After the initial teaching weekend, the candidates are assigned another five teaching sessions that they must plan, teach, evaluate and video again in collaboration with their course instructor prior to the final teaching and evaluation weekend.

5. Final teaching weekend: Combines classroom sessions, practical instructor field sessions and final candidate evaluation and takes place some five months after the initial course orientation.

In making the "D" more of a educational journey and process than is possible in a two- or four-day course, US Soccer has made it a course that can truly change a person’s coaching philosophy. All candidates who attend this educational event are certain to have a great experience.

Eastern New York will be announcing new "D" course events on our website, http://www.enysoccer.com/, in the upcoming months.
