Commack Challengers Defeat the South Huntington Strikers, 5-1, to Win the Girls-Under-14 Arch Capital Group Cup

By Randy Vogt, Director of Public Relations, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association
June 18, 2013-Appropriately enough, the Commack Challengers won what used to be called the Challenge Cup on June 8 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview. Now named after the sponsor and called the Arch Capital Group Cup, Commack took the Girls-Under-14 championship with an emphatic 5-1 win over another Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) squad, the South Huntington Strikers.
Tara McCaffrey scored two goals while Abby Cuomo, Sarah Riordan and Rachel Law each scored one for Commack. Shelby Wuss scored for South Huntington.
"We passed and moved the ball very well," said Commack coach Joe Modica. "Their keeper, Alivia Barton, made several spectacular saves to keep them in the game."
South Huntington received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as selected by the game officials. Now living in Ohio, Mr. Rubenstein was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA), the US Amateur Soccer Association and the Long Island Junior Soccer League.
With 123,843 youth soccer players––68,587 boys and 55,256 girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border.
