June 19, 2014-Briana Payano scored two goals and Alex Rigos added one as the Auburndale Liberty won the Girls-Under-14 Arch Capital Group Cup final with a 3-0 win over another Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) team, the Babylon Orange Crush. The Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association’s (ENYYSA) cup final was played on June 7 at the Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview, Long Island.

“Our girls are very tight and we are a family. We win as a team and lose as a team,” said Auburndale coach Bill Velanis. ”In addition to our outstanding mental attitude is our girls skill level, which is a direct result of our long time trainer, Mr. Paul Elliot Allen, a former World Cup player for Trinidad and Tobago.”

Christiane Diaz made several spectacular saves to preserve the shutout in goal for Auburndale.

Babylon received the Howard Rubenstein Sportsmanship Award as selected by game officials. Now retired and living in Ohio, the remarkable namesake of this award was seemingly involved in every facet of New York soccer for decades and is a member of the Halls of Fame of Eastern New York, the US Amateur Soccer Association and the Long Island Junior Soccer League.

Eastern New York would like to thank our sponsor, Arch Capital Group, which writes insurance and reinsurance on a worldwide basis through operations in the United States, Bermuda, Canada and Europe, with a focus on specialty lines.

“This cup competition is a great event in that it gives young people an opportunity to experience high levels of competition. And you don’t have to be the best team in the state to win a championship with the Arch Capital Group Cup,” said Brian Hughes, Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary of Arch Capital.

With 123,843 youth soccer players––68,587 boys and 55,256 girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 12 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire state of New York east of Route 81.
