Westchester Youth Soccer League (WYSL) and MSSL are pleased to introduce MAPS WPL, a multi-state bracket of competition for players U8 and older. MAPS WPL Flights will support fully integrated league offerings that provide wider age and geographic footprints for emerging premier-level teams. The program permits the versatility of dual-carding participants and begins Fall 2013.
The goal of the joint program is to be a club's first choice league that streamlines its teams’ increasingly crowded schedules. Schedules will ensure one quality game each week, while still allowing teams to qualify for the Cup competitions and special programs that they want to participate in. By integrating with the MSSL Player Progression System, WYSL clubs will be able to use a single source to access all levels of play, from local travel team brackets to national-quality EDP Flights.
The initiative is modeled on the MAPS Flight programs which build flights based on competitive level. The league program frees coaches of WYSL-based clubs to concentrate on making their players the best they can be, knowing one league will serve every level of play within the club.
MSSL, and the MAPS Flights it supports, has over fifteen years of experience structuring regional competition, and providing a Player Progression System that focuses on player development. Integrating with WYSL, the goal is to combine two highly successful programs and offer a stronger platform to serve the area with quality league play, accessible Cup play, and sensible travel.
Participants can expect:
- Highly Competitive games among appropriately-matched teams
- Policies designed to support the US Soccer Federation's "Best Practices" guidelines
- Sensible travel within a compact regional area
- Simplified scheduling that incorporates league play and cup play into a developmentally-friendly format
- Rostering options that allow clubs greater flexibility over the course of a seasonal year
- Proven history of two very successful and respected leagues combining to offer even stronger programming
- Flexibility to participate in program offerings from both ENYYSA and US Club Soccer
As MSSL and MAPS Flights already offer, the new joint program will support dual-carding. Obviously, when a team or player participates in a program offered by a specific sanctioning body (for example, State Cup, ODP, id2, etc.), the team/player will use that sanctioning body’s cards for the event.
League registration for the Fall of 2013 will open May 1, 2013 at www.wyslsoccer.org
. Over the next few weeks, more details about the new league offering will appear on the site, as well as Rules & Regulations, Registration information, answers to Frequently Asked Questions.
Julian DiDonato, President of WYSL, indicated that "We welcome the opportunity to improve the offerings to our clubs by combining efforts with MSSL. We expect to provide highly competitive play, access to New York cups and options to best develop players in our clubs."
Bohdan Porytko, Commissioner and Founder of MAPS Flights, observed, "This partnership offers a natural extension of the MAPS Flight system of play with reliable, quality games every week. By combining local and regional play with our existing footprint, WYSL teams will get the best of both worlds, great competition and sensible travel."
WYSL is a 501(c)3 corporation located in New York. MAPS Flights are a program of MSSL, a 501(c)3 corporation located in New Jersey. Both are dedicated to creating educational and athletic opportunities for the youth in the areas they serve.
