ENYYSA's Taylor, Quinn To Play With U-23 WNT In Germany
Defender Brittany Taylor and midfielder Lorraine Quinn -- both graduates of the ENYYSA ODP program -- are heading to Germany. They will be traveling with the U.S. Women's Under-23 team to Germany to train and play several matches against the German U-23 and a women's Bundesliga team from May 16-24.

Memorial Service For Soccer Pioneer Gordon Bradley May 9
A memorial service will be held for former Cosmos coach Gordon Bradley at George Mason University Stadium in Fairfax, Va. at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 9. Bradley, who was an important member of the early days of the Massapequa Soccer Club (Long Island Junior Soccer League), passed away Tuesday after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was 74.

Defenders Sade Ayinde (Bellmore, L.I.) and Alyssa Pember (Northport, L.I.) were named to U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team training camp. They were among 24 players who will train under coach Dean Deurst in Sunrise, Fla. from May 3-10.

ENYYSA'S Nuzzolese Called Into U17 Women's National Team Camp
ENYYSA ODP's Rachel Nuzzolese of Upper Brookville, N.Y,. who returned from Italy in March with the 91 USYSA Regional Team, was called into the U.S. Under-17 Women’s National team training held in Sunrise,Florida. Nuzzolese will return to the next training camp held May 1-7 in Sunrise, Florida.

During its week-long April training session, the U17 Women’s National Team downed the University of Miami by a 3-0 score The Mewis sisters, Kristen and Samantha, each tallied once, with Kristen assisting on Samantha’s goal, while Nuzzolese tallied the final goal, finishing a rebound of her own shot. The U-17s out-shot Miami 14-3.

Seven ENYYSA Girls Played For U.S. U-16 ODP Team In Costa Rica
Five girls from Eastern New York were on a U.S. Under-16 ODP team that participated in an international tournament in Costa Rica in April.

The players:  Kristi Abbate (Albertson Fury), Maria Canicatti (Syosett Rough Riders), Deanna Murino (team not available),  Lia Bellizzi (FC Sting); Karri Quinn (Syosett Rough Riders), Karin Simonian (Massapequa Power) and Tatiana Saunders (Montclair Thunderbolts.
Asselta, Machtel, Schroeder Inducted Into LIJSL Hall Of Fame

Melville, L.I. -- Three men who made a different in local soccer were inducted into the Long Island Junior Soccer League Hall of Fame Friday night. The three were Frank Asselta, Dennis Machtel and the late John Schroeder, who were honored at the league's annual volunteer of the year dinner at the Huntington Hilton Friday night.

An Appreciation: Howard Rubenstein

So, Howard Rubenstein has finally done it. He has retired and moved to Springboro, Ohio so he and his wife Debbie can be closer to their children and grandchildren. Can't say I don't blame him, wanting to slow down. But soccer in Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association will be much lesser without Howard Rubenstein.

Three ENYYSA Players Drafted by MLS
Three former members of four-time State Cup Champions Yorktown Spirit have been chosen in the MLS draft. Ryan Cordero, of Highland Falls, N.Y. was taken by D.C. United. He played college soccer at the University of Connecticut. Laurent Manuel, of New York City was selected by the Red Bulls. Manuel played his college ball at Brown University. Kevin Reiman, of Yorktown Heights, N.Y. was picked by Real Salt Lake. Reiman played for Michigan State University.

The Spirit from the EHYSL was coached by current East Hudson Youth Soccer League head coach David McCollum.
NSCAA Honors ENYSoccer.com's Lewis
ENYSoccer.com Editor Michael Lewis was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America at the organization's banquet in Baltimore Jan. 18. The certificate is given by the organization for outstanding achievement in and service to the sport. It is rare for the NSCAA to honor journalists.

ENY Hall Of Fame Inducts Four New Members From ENYYSA
Four Adult Inductees Also Announced

The Eastern New York Soccer Hall of Fame inducted eight new members on December 8 -- four from the Eastern NY Youth Soccer Association. The youth honorees included Ray Ward, Patricia Masotto, Ian McDougall and Chris Armas. Rocco Morelli, George Mellis, John Palumbo and Syd Crossley are the adult inductees.

The Hall is a joint venture of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association and Eastern New York State Adult Soccer Association. For  profiles of the inductees CLIICK ON CONTINUE below the picture here...

Double Honors For The Late John Schroeder
Former Sayville High School and youth soccer coach John Schroeder, who passed away Oct. 6, has been remembered and honored in death. Schroeder was named the New York State Class A high school girls coach of the year. He also was elected into the Long Island Junior Soccer League Hall of Fame, according to members of his family.

Former ENYYSA ODP Coach Caffrey Joins Cabrera on U17 National Team Staff
Will Join Residency Staff in Bradenton, Fla.
Former ENYYSA ODP coach and former Long Island Roughrider standout Paul Caffrey has been named an assistant coach with the U.S. Under-17 National Team. Also named an assistant with Caffrey was former Roughrider teammate and goalkeeper Paul Grafer.  Both will work under another former ENYYSA ODP coach and Rider teammate, U-17 head coach Wilmer Cabrera. They will all work with the U17 National Team’s residency program, which is located in Bradenton, Fla.

Caffrey also coached at Suffolk Community College, where he was named national junior college Region XV coach of the year in 2005.  Also named as an assistant is Oscar Pareja, an assistant coach with Dallas FC. They will join Brian Maisonneuve, who will begin his third year with the U-17 side.
ENYYSA To Offer Free Coaching Courses To Recreation Programs
State Association Will Conduct Youth Module Courses at Rec/Intramural Program Request

Eastern New York’s Coaching Education staff is offering free coaching courses to any recreation program that makes a request to ENYYSA.  The staff will conduct a Youth Module course designed primarily for coaches who coach 6-8 year olds.

To get the free course all a recreation/intramural program needs to do is:

• Supply a venue to conduct the course (proper size to accommodate the number of participants).
• Minimum of 20 candidates are necessary to conduct course, maximum of 100 candidates.
• Supply ENYYSA with three dates between January and March 2008.
• Provide 30 days notice prior to the event.

Former ENYYSA ODP Player, Piero Bellizzi, Named Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Year
Former ENYYSA ODP player Piero Bellizzi, who played his club ball with the FC Westchester ’89 Boys and is now a freshmen at Northwestern University, has been honored as the Big Ten Conference’s Freshman-of-the-Year.  Bellizzi was also voted as a unanimous selection to the Big 10 All-Freshman Team and he was also named to the All Big Ten second team.

According to Northwestern, Bellizzi has had a huge impact in his freshman season, ranking second among the nation’s freshmen with eight assists, a total that led Northwestern. He was third on the squad with four goals and was second with 16 points. Bellizzi’s top performance came in a Sept. 23 win at No. 19 Ohio State when he scored two goals and had an assist. He also had the game-winning goal in a victory over No. 16 Michigan State Oct. 28.

ENYYSA Officials Praise Cabrera'a Appointment As U-17 National Coach

Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association officials applauded the appointment of former ODP coach Wilmer Cabrera as the U.S. Under-17 National Team coach. Cabrera was named coach last week. He succeeded John Hackworth, who became an assistant to U.S. national coach Bob Bradley.

ENYYSA Officers Elected at Annual General Meeting
ENYYSA conducted its annual elections at its Annual General Meeting held August 4 in White Plains.

Ray Ward and Richardo Christiano were re-elected as vice presidents. Lynne Thibdeau was re-elected secretary; Lonny Unger was re-elected as a trustee. Former Massapequa Soccer Club president Rob Snyder (Long Island Junior Soccer League) was elected registrar. He succeeds Ken Gulmi, who decided not to run for a seventh term. Gulmi had served since 1995. Capital District Youth Soccer League president Pat Ramundo was elected as a trustee.

All the officers’ terms are for two years.
ENYYSA Grows To A Record 134,009 Players
Once again, Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association has grown. The number of registrations for the 2006/2007 season increased 1.71 percent. That's a total of 2,225 more players -- from 131,754 to a record 134,009 from 2005/2006. The largest gains were by the Long Island Junior Soccer League (1,872), East Hudson Youth Soccer League (1,591) and Westchester Youth Soccer League (1,272).
ENYYSA '91 ODP South Wins Region 1 ODP Tournament
ENYYSA 1991s To Attend 2008 US Youth Soccer ODP National Championships Next March in Texas
The Boys 1991 South ODP team made ENYYSA ODP history in Kirkwood, Delaware by winning its second consecutive Region I Championship. As a result, the team will return to Frisco, Texas in March 2008 to compete again for the ODP National Championship.

Two ENYYSA Alums Honored at the Jewish Hall of Fame
Craig Ludin, who overcame disabilities to be a successful player in the Long Island Junior Soccer League’s Special Children program, was inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame during ceremonies in Commack, L.I. April 29.

Also honored at the induction ceremony was Charles Altchek, a senior striker at Harvard who played for FC Westchester and the ENYYSA ODP program. Altchek, along with North Carolina sophomore midfielder Yael Averbuch of Montclair, N.J., were awarded the Marty Glickman outstanding Jewish scholastic athletes of the year.
