Three Eastern New York players were named to the United States team for the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup in Germany. The three players are defenders Sade Ayinde and Crystal Dunn and forward Vicki DiMartino.
Ayinde, who hails from North Bellmore, N.Y., attends the University of Maryland. Dunn, who calls Rockville Centre, N.Y. home, will attend the University of North Carolina. DiMartino, the Silver Ball winner at the U-17 WWC in 2008, is from Massapequa, N.Y. and plays her college ball at Boston College.
All three players are ENY ODP graduates.
They were among 21 players named to the team by coach Jillian Ellis. The U-20 WWC will be held in Bochum, Bielefeld, Augsburg and Dresden, Germany from July 13-Aug. 1. Ellis named the team after a two-week training camp in Los Angeles and San Diego, which was the last extended domestic event for the U.S. team before it departs for Germany in early July.
The U.S. team will play its final international matches before the World Cup in Europe as the tea will travel to Germany on June 6 for two games, facing Japan on June 10 and Germany on June 13.
