PHILADELPHIA -- Long-time Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association coach and director of coaching Nick Zlatar was named the winner of the Charlotte Moran youth long term service award at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America awards banquet Friday night.
Zlatar, who also coached at the Region I level, Kingsborough Community College and youth soccer in Staten Island, developed the first D level non-residential coaching course in New York. That course became a model for future U.S. Soccer non-residential courses.
He spent a good portion of his life dedicated to coaching education. He also was coaching director of the Staten Island Soccer League for 25 years.
A native of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Zlatar played high school and college (New York University) soccer and baseball as well.
The award is named in memory of the late executive director of the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association.
