Sky Blue FC selected University of Connecticut defender Brittany Taylor as its first pick of the Women's Professional Soccer draft Friday morning. Taylor, an Eastern New York ODP graduate who was taken as the sixth overall choice, hails from Campbell Hall, N.Y., which is near Newburgh.

"I'm very excited," Taylor said in front of an audience at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. "It's a great opportunity to play so close to home."

Taylor's No. 1 position is on the backline, although she played midfield and forward for the Huskies.

She doesn't mind where she will wind up with Sky Blue, the defending WPS champions. "Wherever I need to be playing," she said.
