Several ENYYSA Players Named to NSCAA All-American Teams

Several ENYYSA players have been named All-Americans.

ENYYSA’s Grella Named 2nd Team Men’s All-American

Duke University junior forward Mike Grella was named to a second team men’s All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Grella, a Glen Cove, L.I. native, was a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection. He led the Blue Devils with 10 goals this season and added six assists for 26 points. Grella also led ACC with six game-winning goals.

ENYYSA’s DiMartino, Barnes, Weber, DeRosa Named Women’s Division I All-Americans

Several women from Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association were named Division I All-Americans by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Among those honored:

* UCLA junior midfielder Christina DiMartino of Massapequa Park, L.I. was selected to the second team.

* West Virginia junior defender Greer Barnes (Rye, N.Y.)

* Hofstra defender Sue Weber and forward Brooke DeRosa were named to the third team.

Weber, who is from Islip, L.I. became the first All-American in Hofstra women’s soccer history in 2005, when she earned third-team honors after leading the Pride to its first conference championship and NCAA tournament berth. This year, she became the first two-time All-American in Pride history, and had company as DeRosa joined the Pride as a transfer after a two-year absence from college soccer. They helped lead the Pride to another Colonial Athletic Association title, a school record 18 wins, and a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Weber is a three-time CAA Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time CAA tournament Most Outstanding Player selection. She was also named a first-team CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American earlier this month. Weber recorded six assists on the season, second on the team, and spearheaded a defensive unit that set school records with 12 shutouts and seven consecutive shutouts. She played every minute of every game in
her entire collegiate career, including one season at Georgia in 2004 before she transferred to Hofstra in 2005.

DeRosa, who hails from Ronkonkoma, L.I., played at Syracuse from 2002-04, before leaving school for personal reasons -- she had a baby -- and transferring to joining the Pride this fall. She scored 14 goals this past, tying for the second-highest season total in school history. She scored three goals in the post-season, including two in the CAA semifinals against James Madison and one against top-seeded Penn State in the second round of the NCAA tournament. She also had five assists to finish with 33 points, only two shy of the school record.
