Double Honors For The Late John Schroeder
Former Sayville High School and youth soccer coach John Schroeder, who passed away Oct. 6, has been remembered and honored in death. Schroeder was named the New York State Class A high school girls coach of the year. He also was elected into the Long Island Junior Soccer League Hall of Fame, according to members of his family.

Schroeder, a former Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association ODP coach, passed away in his sleep in early October.

Sayville is located in Section 11.

He also coached girls teams at the Bayport Soccer Club the past five years.

Schroeder forged his coaching reputation at the Massapequa Soccer Club, guiding girls teams to ENYYSA State Cup titles. He coached his daughters, Tina and Carrie, at the Massapequa S.C.

Other coaches from Eastern New York also were honored as coach of the year in their respective division:

Class AA -- David Prutting (St. Anthony's High School, Long Island)

Class B -- Owen Scully (Briarcliff H.S., Briarcliff, N.Y. Section 1)

CLASS C -- Joe DiMattina (Florida H.S., Florida, N.Y., Section 9)
