Huntington, W.Va. -- Inclement weather wreaked havoc with the final day of opening round play at the Region I tournament on Sunday. But one thing was certain: four girls teams from Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association reached Monday’s semifinals.
The four:
* Albertson Fury Girls U-15 and U-17 teams (they did not have to play Sunday because they already had clinched their group titles)
* Syosset Rough Riders Elite Girls U-16 (they did not play because they already had won their group crown)
* The Albertson Fury U-19 side also qualified for the semifinals with a 4-0 victory over Empire United (New York West) in Girls U-19. The Fury will play the Free State Shooters (Md.) in a semifinal on Monday.
The weather forced Region I officials to cancel games between teams that were not essential to teams qualifying for the semifinal round.
